ROARING READERS, FUTURE LEADERS
Dear Bradoaks Families,
It is with much excitement that I welcome you to Bradoaks. For some of you, this will be a continuation of a long-standing relationship with our seasoned staff and welcoming school community. For others, this will be your first year in what we hope is the beginning of many great years to come.
This summer our country celebrates perseverance and work ethic as we watch our athletes represent the USA in the Olympics. Many of these athletes from around the world are true examples of the power of Growth Mindset. The past few years we have been introduced to the concept of Growth Mindset and made considerations as to how we can let students know we champion the “try.” We have been working on our students building stamina, thinking “outside the box,” and persevering through complicated tasks. This year our mission is the same as we “Go for the Gold” with our students, all the while celebrating their genuine efforts and personal growth. When we find students who say they CAN’T, we will remind them of the word YET. Enclosed in your first week packet will be a handout of phrases you can use to support the Growth Mindset in your home.
Our academic focus stays the same - ROARing Readers, Future Leaders! We will continue to work on fluency, comprehension, and problem solving through critical thinking. We will use the best practices of cooperative learning strategies, direct instruction, data driven first instruction and intervention, and Sustained Structured Silent Reading. We will offer students a balanced literacy program and teach CCSS math standards using SWUN math.
Our students will continue to practice our Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports pillars;Respect, On Task, Attitude in Check, and Responsible. Bobcats will ROAR! By ROARing our community creates a safe environment where learners are able to work interdependently, becoming risk takers, creative thinkers, and developing their own talents.
The Bradoaks staff and I want to take the opportunity to thank you in advance for your partnership in your child’s education. Together, we can take a team approach to supporting your child. We invite you to be an active participant in our school community. We welcome our new PTA President, Darla Sayles. She has been busy along with the PTA Board planning the year of events to help our school with funding and exciting activities. Becoming a member and participating in our PTA is one great way to volunteer and connect with teachers, staff, and other families. PTA will hold its first PTA meeting on August 22nd and again on September 12.
